Rediscover pearls with our purple pearl earrings—a vibrant alternative to traditional white pearls. This collection features cultured freshwater pearls sized between 9mm ~ 11mm, giving them a noticeable presence on the ear. These pearls are 100% untreated, with no artificial enhancements.
In Chinese culture, the Nine Purple Flames (九紫离火) symbolize a powerful and auspicious cycle of fire energy, bringing luck, creativity, and positive change. Purple, at the heart of this energy, is believed to attract fortune and elevate the spirit. Our premium purple pearls are not just beautiful gemstones — but also thought to embody the vibrant essence of the Nine Purple Flames. Wear them as a talisman of luck, a symbol of inner power, and a celebration of life’s radiant moments.
Even within purple tones, variations occur: some lean warm, some cool, some with hints of pink or blue. This makes them versatile, suiting different skin tones and moods. To help you make an informed choice, we measure and photograph front, and side views of every pair, including natural imperfections. What you see is truly what you get.
Each pair is set on minimalist 925 sterling silver or 18k gold-plated silver posts. No need for complex design—these pearls speak for themselves. To secure larger pearls, we use 4mm–6mm pearl cups instead of the common 3mm, ensuring stability. Oversized round disc backings keep these 10mm pearl earrings upright, preventing drooping and offering all-day comfort. You can see the cup and backing details in the reference photo of pair No. 1 Jubilee.
About Purple Pearls
Celebrate the colorful beauty of Edison freshwater pearls—shades you won’t find in seawater pearls. Their natural palette includes purple, pink, light gold, silvery-gray, and metallic tones. Edison pearls are a breakthrough in Chinese pearl farming, delivering metallic iridescence that rivals Tahitian pearls at just 1/6 ~ 1/3 the price. According to the GIA Pearl Quality Factors, luster and overtone are the primary markers of quality (source: GIA – Pearl Quality Factors). We only use untreated natural pearls with high luster and rich overtones.
Pearls are organic gemstones, meaning their pigments may shift or soften over time. Just as many colored gemstones fade under direct sunlight or heat, natural pearls can also change. Unlike dyed pearls losing their coating and reveal usually white core, natural colorful pearls keep their body color, though shades may soften from violet to lavender or deep purple to violet brown. Research (including GIA testing) shows that untreated purple pearls may gradually shift from deep violet to lighter lavender. Many collectors embrace this gentle transformation as part of the pearl’s life story.
To minimize the possibility of color shiting when they’re in your hands, we prioritize pearls with mellatic shades in our designs. These are usually the most valuable freshwater pearls in the market and the least to shift colors. Also we store our naturally colored pearls for over one year before setting them into jewelry. Experts have pointed out that after ~1 year the color shifting tend to stabilize. Only those with stable, lasting color make it into our designs. Learn more about Colorful Pearls’ Natural Journey.
We believe in being transparent so you know what to expect. We also want to reassure you: purple pearls remain beautiful over time, whether vivid or softened. They carry a special charm that white pearls cannot offer.
