Professional Pearl Drill Bits for Precision Drilling
These pearl drill bits are made from high-hardness tungsten steel and designed specifically for drilling freshwater and baroque pearls. The sharp triangular tip grinds smoothly instead of forcing pressure, helping reduce vibration and minimizing the risk of cracking delicate pearls.
Each needle is double-ended. When one side becomes dull, simply flip it and continue working — extending the usable life of the tool.
Compatible with handheld and tabletop drilling machines as long as the chuck can hold the selected diameter.
Available in multiple sizes for different pearl drilling needs. The prices are for 1 piece.
Why jewelers prefer this tungsten pearl drill bits
a) Extremely hard material for efficient grinding
b) Sharp triangular tips reduce slipping
c) Cleaner holes with less overheating
d) Double-ended design extends tool life
e) Stable performance for repeated drilling
Important drilling guidelines
Pearl drilling is grinding, not force. Follow professional safety practice:
1) Use a drill with at least 30W power (e.g. I use 60W for my handheld machine)
2) Always drill with a sharp tip — dull needles overheat pearls
3) Tungsten is hard thus very brittle; thin sizes can snap if bent
4) Drill step by step and meet in the center for through-holes
5) Expand large holes gradually from a small pilot hole
6) Never push downward forcefully
7) Pause if the pearl becomes hot and allow it to cool
Beginner recommendations
For large quantities of round pearls, a tabletop drill offers better stability.
For irregular baroque pearls or small batch work, handheld drills provide more control.
Most common pearl drilling sizes: 0.7mm – 0.9mm
Floating pearl necklace drilling: 1.5mm – 1.8mm. See how we use this technique in our Floating Pearl Necklace.
